{"id":3303,"date":"2020-03-23T21:53:41","date_gmt":"2020-03-23T19:53:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.tomayac.com\/2020\/03\/23\/my-working-from-home-setup-during-covid-19\/"},"modified":"2020-03-23T21:53:41","modified_gmt":"2020-03-23T19:53:41","slug":"my-working-from-home-setup-during-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tomayac.com\/wordpress\/2020\/03\/23\/my-working-from-home-setup-during-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"My Working From Home Setup During COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\t\t\t<p>Google, like many other companies, has a required working from home (WFH) policy\nduring the COVID-19 crisis.\nIt has taken me a bit, but now I have found a decent WFH setup.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-hardware\">The Hardware <a class=\"direct-link\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.tomayac.com\/2020\/03\/23\/my-working-from-home-setup-during-covid-19\/#the-hardware\">\u2693<\/a><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MacBook_Air#Third_generation_(Retina_and_USB-C)\">MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)<\/a>:\nThis is simply the corporate machine I had before.\nIts keyboard is still working fine, but for ergonomic reasons, I have an external wired\n<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Apple_Keyboard#\/media\/File:Apple_Keyboard_with_Numeric_Keyboard_9612.jpg\">Apple A1243 keyboard<\/a>\nand a wired <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Apple_Mighty_Mouse\">Apple Mighty Mouse<\/a>\nconnected to it.<\/li>\n<li>An <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IPad_Pro#Second_generation\">iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (2nd generation)<\/a>:\nThis is a dented, scratched device from 2017 that I bought for \u20ac349.99\n(incl. tax, customs, and shipping) from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.de\/usr\/pre-tech?ul_noapp=true\">dealer<\/a>\nin the UK\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.com\/sch\/i.html?_from=R40&amp;_nkw=iPad%20Pro%20%2812.9-inch%29%20%282nd%20generation%29&amp;_sacat=0&amp;LH_BIN=1&amp;rt=nc&amp;_udlo=300&amp;_udhi=400\">on eBay<\/a>\n(this is the search deeplink that I used).<\/li>\n<li>An <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IPad_Air_2\">iPad Air\u00a02<\/a>: This is a private device from 2014.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/news.lenovo.com\/pressroom\/press-releases\/introducing-lenovo-smart-clock-with-google-assistant\/\">Lenovo Smart Clock<\/a>:\nThis mostly just serves as a photo frame, and of course as a desk clock.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/blog.tomayac.com\/images\/covid-19-wfh-setup.jpg\" alt=\"My COVID-19 working from home setup\"><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-software\">The Software <a class=\"direct-link\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.tomayac.com\/2020\/03\/23\/my-working-from-home-setup-during-covid-19\/#the-software\">\u2693<\/a><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT210380\">Sidecar<\/a> feature, so I can use my iPad Pro\nas a second screen with my MacBook Air.\nThe coolest about this feature is that I can multitask it away (see next bullet)\nwithout the laptop readjusting the screen arrangement.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/hangouts-meet-by-google\/id1013231476\">Hangouts Meet<\/a> app\non my iPad Pro, so my laptop performance stays unaffected when I am on a video call.\nA nice side-effect is that the camera of the iPad Pro is in the middle of my two screens,\nso no weird &quot;looking over the other person&quot;
