@davatron5000 Maybe consider SVG favicons so you don’t have to ask the question at all. They’ve reached decent browser support (caniuse.com/#feat=link-icon-svg) and you can do fun things with them like animate them (blog.tomayac.com/2019/12/01/animated-svg-favicons/) or have a dark mode favicon (blog.tomayac.com/2019/09/21/prefers-color-scheme-in-svg-favicons-for-dark-mode-icons/).
