@passle_ I found the most reliable way to communicate is by wrapping the calls as in github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/link-to-text-fragment/blob/c03321a13c936a3dfba131788e1619c4f9cf1434/background_script.js#L491-L517. If you’re running the extension in an enterprise environment, one of the reasons for the error may be blocked sites (like for Google, extensions can’t run on many Google domains).
