@cadars I really like your approach. One additional idea for the footnotes (for example on john-doe.neocities.org/) might be to look at ruby. I have played with this on blog.tomayac.com/2021/01/24/ruby-html-footnotes/. No manual numbering, no IDs, and same inline markup.
