@MattWilcox @ChromiumDev I wrote about this in the past (blog.tomayac.com/2019/09/21/prefers-color-scheme-in-svg-favicons-for-dark-mode-icons/). Unfortunately some platforms like Android still require PNG for home screen icons, and while the browser should be able to create them on the fly, currently this isn’t implemented. You can provide PNG and SVG in parallel.
